Lia Mcpherson (Detroit, MI) – Artistic Director & Booking Manager.
Lia McPherson a native of Detroit, Michigan, dance roots stem deeply in Detroit street and social dance, hip-hop, West African and modern. Lia is the co-founder of the campus based dance company, Cornrows Dance at the University of Michigan, Artistic Director of Lia McPherson Choreography and co-producer of The Pearl (a quarterly dance concert series presented in Brooklyn, NY). Lia holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance Performance from the University of the Arts (2005) and a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Columbia University (2008). Lia discovered her passion for creating movement and choreography at a very early age. She is very excited to be working with Kilusan Bautista on Universal Filipino!
Music Director: Drummer, writer, and music producer Chuck Mays has been making music since he was a child. Chuck just completed his first solo music production project, The Modest Means Project (2011), which features various Bay Area hip-hop and R&B artist (Do D.A.T, Krystal Azul and…). Born and raised in San Francisco, Chuck Mays has a vast background in soul and jazz music, and plays the drums. His mentor was the late great jazz musician Billy Higgins who gave Chuck his first drum kit. In 2003, Chuck co-founded Namawu Records and the Beatmites music productions, which released the Infestation EP and a compilation titled The Package (Something for Everybody). As co-founder of Namawu Records, the label obtained an international distribution deal and contributed music to the A&E reality TV show, Son’s of Hollywood. As co-founder of Namawu Records, Chuck also story-boarded and directed multiple music videos for the label’s artists. In 2010, Chuck decided to branch out on his own and founded his own music production company, titled Mr. Mays Music, and Rock Ya Nog music .
Animation Designer: Ace & Son Moving Picture Company, LLC is a full service animation production facility. We also offer production services and editorial suites. The studio is helmed by Richard O’Connor, whose career in production goes back to the legendary The Ink Tank (under R. O. Blechman) where he produced children’s series and commercials. He’s been an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design since 1999 and has taught and lectured at several other institutions.
